Seasonal Farm Worker Position- Cut flower Assistant- UPDATE 4/14- THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED!

Woodland Gardens is an established, certified organic fruit, vegetable and cut flower farm in Athens, Georgia.  We have an opening for a summer farm worker.  This employee will report to Celia Barss, farm manager, and to Kalyn Wadsworth, our cut flower manager.  This is a rare opportunity to work with one of the area’s leading farms.  Our field production team has very little turnover, so you will be part of an established and skilled team.

I. Responsibilities

a.       Assist cut flower manager with all aspects of our flower production.   This includes but is not limited to: coordinating and assisting in planting, harvesting and bouquet-making for Athens CSA and Atlanta farmers market.

b.      Assist farm manager with vegetable harvest day responsibilities in the packing house if flower responsibilities are complete.  This includes packing and labeling, etc…

c.       Assist farm crew with weeding, planting and harvest when flower and packing house needs have been met.

II. Markets and CSA

a.       Saturday Farmers Market – May attend farmers market in Atlanta on occasion. 

b.      CSA pickup- help with greeting CSA customers at one of the 2 locations

IV. Qualification, Requirements and Expectations:

a.       Limited experience with annual and perennial organic systems and production is beneficial.

b.      Must be able to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis.

c.       Weekly work hours will be kept to roughly 40-45 hours but certain days may be longer than others

d.      Must be detail oriented.

V. Compensation:

a.       Flower assistant will receive $15/hour to start with possibility to increase based on work performance.
